About me
I am a qualified teacher and experienced online tutor, with 10 years experience of teaching A Level Chemistry and Physics. My students have all made fantastic progress and achieved grades up to A* at A Level. Several students have gone on to study at some of the most competitive universities in the UK, for subjects including Medicine, Engineering, Computer Science and Chemistry.
As a qualified teacher, I can explain the tricky parts of chemistry and physics clearly, enabling you to develop a very solid understanding of each topic. Also, as an experienced A Level and GCSE examiner, I can help you better understand what each question wants and how to gain full marks on it.
I have a First Class degree from Oxford University and a PhD from Cambridge University. My subject knowledge in Chemistry and Physics is very strong so I can help you unpick and gain confidence in answering even the most challenging A Level questions.
I am a friendly, enthusiastic and supportive tutor with very high expectations of progress and achievement. With my help as your tutor, you’ll develop the understanding and exam technique needed to achieve the highest grades possible in your final A Level exams.

My research area was the physics and chemistry of volcanic gases. I also taught Chemistry to small supervision groups of 1st and 2nd year undergraduates and interviewed students for admission to the Natural Sciences Tripos at Cambridge.

Rob is an incredible tutor! I had chemistry lessons with Rob once a week in year 12 and then twice a week in year 13. Rob helped me prepare for my October AS level Chemistry and my Chemistry A level. Before tutoring, I was getting ‘B’s and ‘C’s in chemistry and after, I ended up achieving A in AS level chemistry and an A* in A level. In our lessons, Rob would explain a topic by writing out information and examples onto the screen and explaining it as he went along. Rob explains ideas very thoroughly and logically. After going through an example, he would give another similar one that I had to talk through how to do. This allowed me to properly listen and interact with any questions or examples which was much more useful in helping me understand a topic than writing pages of notes. Rob’s method is extremely effectively and made things I previously found difficult to comprehend very memorable and easy. After a lesson, Rob would send a follow up email, writing what we had covered in that lesson and including attachments of that lesson’s work and any other useful resources (for example, extra questions or links to a topic we were talking about). My parents were very impressed with this and found it helpful to see how and what I was doing. Rob is very friendly and patient which allowed me to ask any question I had which I never felt comfortable enough to do in school. Rob also regularly gives praise either when I got a question right or in the follow up emails which helped me become more confident with my knowledge. My parents also decided to organise GCSE tutoring with Rob for my younger brother as I was so enthusiastic about my lessons. I would absolutely recommend Rob as he helped me achieve grades I wasn’t even expecting!

We are very fortunate to have found Dr Rob. We were looking for a Chemistry tutor for my daughter who missed her Medical offer by a grade and was planning to sit the autumn exam. As the time available for preparation was very short and the regular lessons at school had stopped a few months ago, we had placed a very difficult challenge in front of Rob. Besides, my daughter had studied in the US in a different school system and had not done her GCSC in the UK. From the time I contacted him on Tutor Hunt till now when my daughter is sitting the exams, he had always been very supportive and walked the extra mile. Rob has been an excellent Chemisty tutor. My son`s results and confidence have seen a considerable difference since Rob`s tuition. He is very experienced in teaching and it shows. I would recommend Rob to anyone in need of a chemistry tutor! Suffice to say before Rob began tutoring me I had little confidence in chemistry however with Robs patience and knowledge I gained more confidence and my grades improved. Would recommend to anyone in need of a chemistry tutor. Suffice to say as someone who struggled with chemistry but at the end of tutoring with Rob his enthusiasm for the subject had translated onto me.
